Favorites albums/ EPs of 2023
Here are 7 albums and EPs that were released in 2023 and that I absolutely loved !
Cleo Sol - Heaven
Once again, she served and she ate! Cleo Sol has this wonderful way of blending soul, gospel, and R&B in a manner that feels incredibly authentic. Each song feels like she's singing to you personally, with this live singing effect that the album conveys. One thing is clear: Cleo Soul is good for the soul!
2. Amaarae - Fountain Baby
If I had to describe this album in one word, I'd say "Smooth." Each song flows into the next so smoothly, like an ongoing melody.
As a big fan of Amaarae’s music, I can say that this album shows how her talent has grown over time, and she hasn't finished impressing us yet.
3. Luidji - Saison 00
I discovered this artist a year ago, and since then, I've been listening to his music at least once every day. With this project, Luidji aimed to further explore his identity beyond just music, forging a closer connection with his audience to allow us a deeper understanding of him and i loved it. It seemed like I was learning a little more about his world with each song from his album.
4. Naomi Sharon - Obsidian
Naomi Sharon's first album, "Obsidian," truly displays her artistic expression and openness.
She transports you to a different world with her vocals and music. "Another Life" stood out to me as it elevated the album with its blend of alternative R&B.
5. Berlioz - Jazz is for ordinary people
This album is such a fresh take on jazz, I love Berlioz s‘fusion of traditional jazz with house music. Even if you don't typically consider yourself a jazz lover, I guarantee you will love this project.
6. Aupinard - Aupitape 1 : Hortensia
Aupinard's way of reinterpreting bossa nova by modernizing it with his melancholic sounds completely captivated me. It’s one of those project that just put you in a good mood.
7. Tuerie - Papillon Monarque
For me, Tuerie is an exceptional artist who doesn't receive the recognition he deserves, and this album confirms it once again. Moving between gentleness and intensity, his tracks, influenced by soul, rock, R&B, and even jazz, are each more impressive than the others.
